Cosmetics Classifications

Cosmetics are applied to the body to cleanse it, promote your current beauty or to change your appearance (subtlety or radically). Cosmetic products include deodorants, soaps, face powder, lipstick, nail polish, perfumes, creams, shampoos, conditioners - the list really just goes on and on. These products can be found in department stores, specialty stores, and drugstores. Discount cosmetics are also available in these stores. You can buy them for a bargain because cosmetic products are either close to their expiration date or will be phased out (no longer be made by the cosmetic manufacturer).

Did you know that cosmetic products can be classified into five main groups according to the part of the body for which they are used? Read on to know more.

Skin cosmetic products: This includes make-up such as blushes, face powder, foundations, and lipstick. Other products include those nice bath and body products all women adore such as bubble bath formulas, bath creams, lotions, perfume, shaving cream, and moisturizers.

Hair cosmetic products: This includes conditioners, shampoos that don't contain anti-dandruff ingredients, mousses, sprays, hair gels, straighteners, and perms. Hair cosmetic products also include dyes and bleaches.

Nail cosmetic products: The 1001 nail polishes available in the market and cuticle softeners are the main products in this category.

Mouth cosmetic products or oral cosmetic products: This includes mouthwashes, sprays, toothpastes and other products that clean the teeth and gums but do NOT have cavity-fighting elements in their make.

Other cosmetic products: This group covers special cosmetic products that withstand the heat from lights without melting or running (such as those used by actors on sets or clowns in a circus). Medicinal cosmetic products are also used to conceal birthmarks, scars, or other skin blemishes.
