Homemade Lotion Recipe - How to Make a Simple Lotion

It's quite easy to make your own lotion if you'd only take time to do some research and experiment on your own. But if you still don't buy into the idea of using homemade lotion, then here's a simple homemade lotion recipe for you to try. By making your own homemade body lotion, you not only save on your beauty care expenses, but you also get to know first hand what goes into your lotion.

For your lotion base, you'll need water, oil, and an emulsifier or an ingredient used to blend water and oil together. In particular, you'll need a half cup of distilled water, a half cup of oil and 1 tablespoon of liquid lecithin. For the oil, you can use macadamia nut, grape seed, almond or olive. You can also add essential oils or combine other oils. Another variation you can do is the seeping of beneficial herbs into the water before adding the oil. You can try experimenting on this part.

After you get your lotion base ready, prepare 6 to 8 drops of geranium oil, 2 to 4 drops of Myrrh oil, and 400 IU Vitamin E oil, which is equivalent cutting and squeezing 1 to 2 Vitamin E capsules.

The geranium oil is good for supporting balance and rejuvenating dry skin conditions and is also good for wrinkled and mature skin. Myrrh, on the other hand, is effective in providing the skin with moisture, while Vitamin E serves as an antioxidant and provides protection to the skin. Vitamin E also serves as a preservative.

After preparing all the ingredients, mix them using a blender in either whip or cream. You can add more water to make a lighter lotion. Store in the refrigerator or in a cool place and shake well before using.
